I'll never learn...

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day yesterday! I had a great time at the lake with friends. My shoulders are a little, okay a lot, sunburnt. That's what I get for staying in the water in direct sun for almost four hours on a 95 degree day. You would think that after growing up in South Florida and South Carolina that I would have learned to constantly reapply sunscreen to my extremely fair skin, but apparently that lesson hasn't sunk in yet.

 So peaceful. I feel so lucky to have lived this close to such a beautiful lake all throughout high school.

Apparently the sun gives me a lazy eye? Nice.

My dad lives right across the street from the lake, so we had planned on just going to one of the local docks. But everything was packed. There is a lake access right by our house, but honestly, I hadn't been there for more than five minutes since the day we looked at the house when we first decided we were moving in 2006. So, we headed out there, knowing that it would be empty. Then the sweetest little old lady, who lives next door to the spot where we were setting up our towels, came out and offered to let us use her dock and pier since no one else ever uses it. I love the people in this little neighborhood, they are some of the sweetest people I have ever met.

A Day at the Lake

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day! I'll be spending the day at the local lake enjoying the sunshine and spending time with some old friends.

Stay safe this holiday weekend!

Weekend Recap

Just a quick post to let you all know that I'm still alive. Sorry I haven't been posting for the past few days. I was traveling and doing stuff around my Dad's house. I'll hopefully be back with regular posting starting tomorrow.

Here's a little peek at how I spent the weekend:

Alright, I'm off to have a girl's night with my best friend, who I haven't seen for more than maybe 20 minutes in the past year.

Leaving on a jet plane.....

Sweater: Sam's Club; Jeans: JC Penney; Scarf: Vintage YSL;
Belt: Grandma's; Shoes: Payless; Earrings: Local Fair Trade Shop (The Mustard Seed)

 I wont lie, I wore this like a week and a half ago for a day of shopping with mom, and just never got around to posting it. I'm sure you've all noticed by now that Gizmo really likes to take part in these little photo-shoots.   He doesn't leave my side when I visit my mom. I really want to kidnap him and bring him back to Michigan with me.

On another note, in my last post I mentioned that I was packing for an upcoming trip. I also said that I would tell you about it Saturday. So, let's just pretend that I really said I would tell you all about it on Tuesday, okay? Tomorrow, I'm heading to SC to see my dad and some old friends. I'll be gone for a while, but I'll still be blogging (and forcing my dad to take daily pictures because I may have forgotten to pack my tripod, oops). So, next time you hear from me, I'll be back in the South, where it isn't 40-50 degrees like it is in the Midwest right now.

Does anyone else get John Denver's "Leaving On a Jet Plane" stuck in their head before they get ready to head to the airport or is that just me? I'm probably alone on that one, and I'm totally okay with that.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Recap

Sweater: Grace Elements; Blouse: NY & Co.;
Jeans: Levis via Macy's; Shoes: Target; Earrings: Gift

Alright, so blogger deleted everyone's posts form yesterday. So, some of you may have already seen this outfit. But maybe not. I don't remember what I wrote about yesterday because I was probably rambling. But, I think it went something like this:
  • I think this is the first time I've worn my hair up on the blog.
  • I pretty much never wear my hair up.
  • I love these shoes! They are on clearance at Target for around $5. And they come in a bunch of colors (black, white, pewter, turquoise, red, yellow).
  • I really like these jeans. I bought them last year and wore them once before I forgot about them.
  • I wore this outfit friday for the three and a half hour drive to my Mom's house.
  • I should have worn a scarf or a chunky necklace because this outfit is pretty boring. Lesson learned.

See? Mindless Babble.

Alright, I'm off to Target to grab a few things before I start packing. More on that tomorrow.

EBEW: Florals

Cardigan: Sam's Club, Shirt: Old Navy; Skirt: Target
Shoes: Gift-Aeropostale; Earrings: Local Gift Shop; Bracelets: Gift

Today is florals day over at Everybody, Everywear, and I couldn't wait to throw on this cardigan again. I am in love with the colors in it and how well it pairs with so many different things in my closet.  However, I have to confess that I am no longer wearing this. After taking these slightly awkward  pictures (I totally look pregs in these. I'm not, I promise, my shirt and cami are just tucked in really awkwardly), I changed into shorts and a T-shirt. And, now I'm going to take a quick nap and try to sleep off this (hopefully just a 24 hour) cold.

Hope you're all having an amazing day.

Mother's Day Festivities

Sweater: Target; Cami: Old Navy; Skirt: Ross;
Earrings: Forever21; Shoes: Ross

I hope everyone had a great mother's day yesterday! My Mom and I spent the morning gardening and enjoying the sunshine. We planted some new flowers in the back garden and about a million different types of herbs. Once we were finished with that we headed out to an amazing lunch and then came home and watched The King's Speech (which was amazing by the way) and ate some fro-yo. Overall, I'd say it was a pretty good day.

On another note, I'm sorry that I have only posted once in the past two weeks. I wish I could say that I've been busy or use some other excuse for my absence. But, that's not the case here, sorry. Most days I was doing work around the house and didn't feel like getting dressed, so I spent my days in yoga pants or running shorts. And, I'm pretty sure that you didn't want me to waste your time with that, right? Yea, I didn't think so. But, I'm back now, and I'm planning on getting dressed 99% of the time for at least the next month. So, I shouldn't be taking any more two-week breaks any time soon.

Mother's Day Activities:
Watching the dogs run and play in the sunshine; Some of the new herbs we planted

Gorgeous tulip; Mother's Day flowers

 Hope everyone had a good time while I was away, and that you all had a marvelous weekend!

Latest Obsession

Have any of you tried any of the new nail strips that are available? Lately, I've been kind of obsessed with the Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips. I was a little skeptical when I first saw the ad for them, but I couldn't resist when I saw them on sale at CVS.

They're kind of fantastic. They stayed chip free and fabulous for a whole week. And I know that doesn't sound like a long time, but my nail polish usually chips after a day and half because I spend so much time typing notes in class and digging through my black-hole of a purse.

Plus, I pick at my nail polish constantly. So these may last even longer for people who don't have this problem than they did for me. I've used three different packs and I've loved them all. And the best part? They only take about 10 minutes to apply and file down, and there is no drying time. Unless you use a clear coat on top like I did. But even then, it is so much quicker than having to wait for multiple coats of polish to dry.

So, if you were a skeptic like me, quit it! And go get some of these. If you don't like prints on your nails, they also have solid colors and glitter. And, who doesn't love some glittery nails?

For any of you who are wondering, these run around $9.99 at most stores. I've seen them at CVS, Walgreens, Target, and Walmart, and they were all around the same price. However, Target and CVS have had them on sale the past few times I've been there, and Taget also had a coupon online for a while. So be on the look out for good deals.

Have any of you tried these?
